Frequently Asked Questions for Home Battery Installation
-
One of the primary benefits of a home battery system is its ability to provide backup power during grid outages. If there's a blackout, a home battery can seamlessly kick in, keeping your essential appliances or your whole home running and ensuring your comfort and safety.
-
Our home battery systems auto start when the grid goes down, so you don’t have to worry about going outside in a storm to start up or refuel a generator.
Additionally, home batteries help reduce your carbon footprint by enabling you to use more clean, renewable energy. It promotes sustainability and environmental responsibility, which is increasingly important as the world moves towards greener energy sources.
-
It depends on the size of the system (how many batteries you install). And that is dependent on what you are looking to power during an outage. Work with one of our Sales & Design Consultants to identify the key items you want powered in your home during an outage. Once that’s established, they’ll design a system tailored to your specific needs.

We should have a product that works with your solar system.
If you have an Enphase microinverter solar system, the Enphase IQ Battery 5p, the FranklinWH aPower, and the Tesla Powerwall 2 will work great with your system. When paired with the Enphase batteries, you’ll have the convenience of one easy to use app to manage your solar and battery systems.
If you have a SolarEdge or SMA system, the FranklinWH aPower or Tesla Powerwall 2 are great options to pair with, where your solar will keep your batteries charged and help power your home in an outage. Additionally, their apps allow you to manage your battery systems and the overall production of your solar system.
-
If you do not have a backup battery system and an outage occurs, your solar system is required to shutdown. This is due to the system’s ability to backfeed energy to grid. If your solar system were to remain active during an outage without a battery system, your solar energy could injure workers repairing downed power lines. So, if you only have solar, your system is set to shut off during an outage.
If you have a backup battery system, the battery system senses when the grid goes down and automatically disconnects the home from the grid/utility and creates a microgrid for your home, communicating to your solar inverter(s) that it is safe to continue to generate energy from the sun.
So if you want your solar system to continue to generate energy during an outage and you want to keep the lights on, a home battery is the way to go.
